I have a special interest in communicating my personal story: that of becoming an October 8th Jew. I was someone who began October 7, 2023, with almost no preconceived notions on the topic of Israel and Hamas. When I began investigating the facts, I was astounded. Generations of history and patterns set long before me threatened to sever my connection to Judaism—but the tragedy of that day saved me from that fate.

I often speak for ~14 minutes, weaving in that personal narrative with my experience reporting on the mainstreaming of Jew hatred.

In August 2025, I was subject to a global cancelation campaign for exposing that some of the most commonly used images of Palestinian children said to depict an Israeli-made famine in Gaza were of children who—no doubt were suffering—but had complicated medical histories. I lost every friend I had before 2014 except one (love you, Nat). And yet: how could I regret reporting facts? We have had to issue exactly zero corrections on that story. That was not the case for The Washington Post, which issued a correction in response to our story. Additionally, CNN made major updates to its photo captions.

I once had to file a police report after an anti-Israel mob turned on me while out in the field.

Reporting on this subject has forever changed my life. But there is nothing more valuable than integrity. If not now, when?
